With her fire-truck red hair, powerful vocals, edgy attitude and real life experiences, Hayley Williams shows musical artists are real people who have a story to tell.
Last week, VH1 aired the final episode of “The 100 Greatest Women in Music,” naming 23-year-old Williams No. 77 on the list.
Williams, front woman of the punk band Paramore, has been faced with successes, struggles and revelations that make her into a powerful woman of music at such a young age
. Williams appeared in a testimonial on YouTube in 2010. In the video, Williams addressed topics such as drinking and faith.
She confessed that she lived a very blessed life and did not think that she had been through a lot of hardships. Despite Williams' confidence, through her life she dealt with three different divorces of her parents and the loss of friends to the misfortune of drunk driving.
Williams, a devout Christian, explained being raised in faith, having a blessed family and how important her faith is to her.
Williams, bearing a cross tattoo on her right thigh, continued to explain that she is lucky to have met the people that she has and is blessed by her family and the people around her.
She later expressed to viewers the idea of being open-minded.
“The more you learn to be open-minded and work with people who aren’t exactly like you it’s the best way you can be,” said Williams.
Williams explained that meeting people who come from different religions and have different morals will allow them to learn from others.
Williams also finds herself to be one of the only people that always want to hold their head up and be positive about everything, because this mindset has yet to let her down.
Williams told viewers that she does not drink, smoke or party.
However, in the beginning of the video, Williams explained a time of her life where she dealt with the pressure of drinking and how she learned from that, a time when she started to drink, a shot here and there to help her voice.
“I thought maybe it sounded cool because I was 16- years-old on tour with people who were in their thirties, kind of feeling like it would help me fit in even though it wasn’t something I wanted to do or that I enjoyed doing,” said Williams.
The experience taught her the concept of doing things for herself and no one else.
“I realized that thankfully early enough on in my life that I’ll never do it again if it’s not for me,” said Williams.
Williams is a proud supporter of the non-profit organization “To Write Love on Her Arms.”
This organization builds awareness against self-injury and suicide.
Williams experienced 11 solo opportunities making appearances with other artists like the rapper B.O.B.
Williams appeared in singles like, “Airplanes” off B.O.B’s debut album, “B.O.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray.”
The song was released in 2010 and stayed at the top of the billboard charts for six weeks after, until losing the top spot to Usher’s “OMG.”
Starting in 2006, Williams was featured in songs with various bands like, October Fall, Say Anything, Weezer and Set Your Goals.
Williams appeared in songs with other bands every year from 2006 till 2010.
Williams also received five awards between 2008 and 2009 including sexiest female-front singer.
Williams’ band, Paramore, formed in Franklin, Tennessee in 2004.
The band has created three albums since the release of the first album “All We Know is Falling,” in 2005.
This album included the bands hit songs “Pressure” and “Here We Go Again.”
Paramore received 13 awards including best band, best international band and best album.
“Support music every day because there isn’t a day music won’t be there for you."-Hayley Williams
